“Lips on the Line”
Lip lines…tiny, vertical, and evenly spaced along the upper lip. So feathery and fine at this point that you have to look really close to see them. But they are there and they seem to be more noticeable month after month.
Not all women are blessed with full lips like the ones we see more and more in Hollywood. Adding to this genetic unfairness is the tendency to develop pronounced vertical lines above the top lip after a certain age. The kind that welcome lipstick leak and become even more visible should you make the mistake of layering foundation to cover them.
Luckily, there are ways to help those pesky little lip lines from getting worse or even make them go away altogether.
Lip Lines – The Causes:
Sun exposure
Ultraviolet (UV) rays are to blame for acceleration of aging skin. Surprisingly, on the coldest winter day, exposure to the sun can cause our skin to age more rapidly.
Smoking
The repeated motion of puckering on a cigarette literally causes the tiny grooves in the skin above your lips to form more quickly and to become more pronounced.
Straws
No real science in place to prove this, but some sources say that frequent use of straws can cause lip lines to form sooner with the continued movement of the lips around the straw.
Aging
The thing you can’t do anything about…sort of. There are lifestyle changes that can help prevent or slow the appearance of lines around the upper lip. Hydrate both inside and out, get enough sleep, and eat a healthy diet.
In the end, however, if your genetic code and past sun-exposure sins have resulted in lines to your upper lip, there are steps you can take to minimize and even erase their appearance. Injectable Wrinkle Fillers, Laser Skin Resurfacing, and Chemical Peels are all minimally invasive treatments that can deliver excellent results.
