You may be happy with your skin’s texture and still notice a softer jawline or sagging cheeks. These changes often involve the tissues beneath the skin, so skincare alone may not give you the improvement you want.

Facelift surgery can address that sagging and restore definition to your face. At American Institute for Plastic Surgery, we offer facelift surgery in Plano for patients throughout Dallas, Frisco, and surrounding communities.

What Is a Facelift?

A facelift, also called rhytidectomy, lifts sagging facial tissue and removes excess skin. The procedure addresses changes through the middle and lower face by repositioning the tissues that support your facial contours.

Several surgical approaches are available. A deep plane facelift releases and lifts deeper supporting tissue, while the appropriate technique for you depends on your anatomy and the correction needed. Your surgeon will explain these differences during your consultation.

Good Candidates for Facelift Surgery

A facelift may be appropriate if you have noticeable facial sagging and want a lasting improvement in your appearance. Good candidates generally have:

  • Loose skin or sagging tissue through the cheeks and lower face
  • Jowls that make the jawline less defined
  • Good overall health without conditions that significantly impair healing
  • Realistic expectations about the results
  • Time and support to follow recovery instructions

Nonsmokers are generally better candidates for surgery. Your surgeon will review your medical history, medications, and nicotine use before recommending a procedure and explaining how to prepare.

What to Expect During the Procedure

You will receive general anesthesia or sedation with local anesthesia, depending on your surgical plan. Your surgeon then makes incisions around the natural contours of the ears, which may extend into the hairline. Their length and placement depend on the correction needed.

Through these incisions, your surgeon lifts and repositions the supporting facial tissues, then secures them in place. The skin is adjusted over the lifted contours, and excess skin is removed.

Once these adjustments are complete, your surgeon closes the incisions with sutures and applies dressings to protect the treated areas.

Facelift Recovery

You will need time to rest after surgery, so arrange help at home and plan your work schedule beforehand. We will provide instructions for incision care, medications, follow-up appointments, and activity restrictions.

Although healing varies, a general recovery timeline includes:

  • The first week: Rest at home while swelling and bruising are most noticeable. Keep your head elevated and follow your care instructions closely.
  • Weeks two and three: Bruising gradually improves, and many patients return to desk work and light daily activities. Some swelling and tightness may remain.
  • The following months: Facial contours become clearer as swelling subsides and the tissues settle. Allow additional healing time before major events or professional photographs.

Your surgeon will let you know when you can resume exercise and strenuous activities. Follow-up appointments allow us to check your healing and answer questions as you recover.

Benefits of a Facelift

A facelift can improve several visible signs of facial aging in one procedure. Depending on your anatomy and the areas treated, benefits may include:

  • A more defined jawline
  • Less visible jowling
  • Smoother contours through the lower cheeks
  • Softer folds between the nose and mouth
  • A more rested appearance

Your results will depend on your starting anatomy and surgical plan. Our before-and-after gallery includes facial surgery results that can help you discuss your preferences with your surgeon.

Facelift Cost in Plano and Dallas

Facelift cost varies with the surgical technique, the amount of correction needed, and whether other procedures are included. The total price also accounts for the surgeon’s fee, anesthesia, and surgical facility expenses.

During your consultation, we will discuss the recommended procedure and provide an estimate. Our team can also explain available financing options, so you understand the financial details before making a decision. Cosmetic facelift surgery is generally not covered by health insurance.

“Dr. Raphael and his team are amazing. From the first time I walked in the door, nervous and unsure, they were welcoming and made me feel comfortable. Even considering plastic surgery was well out of my comfort zone. I didn’t feel out of place or awkward.”

Facelift FAQs

What Is the Best Age for a Facelift?

K
L

There is no single best age for a facelift. Your health, the degree of sagging, and the changes you want to address matter more than your age alone.

How Long Do Facelift Results Last?

K
L

Results can remain visible for many years, although aging continues after surgery. Sun protection, a stable weight, and healthy habits can help maintain your results over time.

Can Fillers Replace a Facelift?

K
L

Facial fillers can restore volume and soften selected folds, but they do not remove excess skin or correct significant sagging in the same way as surgery. Your surgeon can explain whether volume loss, tissue sagging, or both are contributing to your concerns.

Will a Facelift Improve My Eyelids or Forehead?

K
L

A facelift primarily treats the middle and lower face. Eyelid surgery and brow lift surgery address separate concerns in the upper face and may be discussed if those areas also need attention.
