Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to enhance the size of a woman’s breast. There are many reasons women choose breast augmentation in Plano, including correcting a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy, improving the symmetry of the breasts, improving body shape, making it easier for clothing to fit better, balancing out the body, and for personal reasons.
By placing a breast implant behind each breast, the skilled surgeons at the American Institute for Plastic Surgery are able to increase a woman’s chest by one or more bra cup sizes. The procedure can also improve the shape of the breasts. We feel that the shape of the breast is just as important as the size.
Are You a Candidate for Breast Augmentation?
The following are attributes that would make you an ideal candidate for breast enlargement:
- You feel your breasts are too small
- Weight loss has changed the size and/or shape of your breasts
- Your breasts have lost volume and firmness due to pregnancy
- Clothing fits in the waist, but not in the chest
- You feel self-conscious wearing tight clothing or swimsuits
- Your breasts are asymmetric in terms of size or shape
Breast Augmentation Consultation
We believe in thorough preoperative consultations to assess your physical and emotional health, discuss your aesthetic goals, and address any questions or concerns you may have. The consultation is your opportunity to meet and discuss your goals and expectations with the surgeon. This is the first step in achieving your new look.
During the consultation, you will be able to ask any question(s) you may have about the procedure, results, and expectations. You will also have a chance to try on different size implants to find the ideal size for you. In order to have a good idea of what your post-operative results may look like, it is helpful to look over breast augmentation before and after photos.
Issues you should be prepared to discuss during consultation include:
- Your desired aesthetic goals
- Medical conditions
- Current medications, including nutritional supplements and herbal remedies
- Past surgeries
- Family breast cancer history
- Any mammogram results
A breast augmentation can be paired with a breast lift for a procedure called a breast augmentation with lift. When combined, a breast lift and implants can give a patient larger perkier breasts without sag. A breast lift without implants is also very effective but does not create a volume increase.
Your Implant Choices
Patients have a wide variety of choices when it comes to breast implants. Most people just think in terms of large breast implants or small breast implants, but there are so many more attributes that define the look and feel of the results.
Choosing an implant type is key. There are three options: silicone breast implants, saline breast implants, and gummy bear implants.
Silicone implants are filled with silicone gel and are inserted pre-filled. Saline implants are filled with a sterile saline solution and are inserted empty and then filled.
Gummy bear implants are a newer option from Allergan and are quite popular. These are filled with a highly cohesive silicone gel. When they experience a rupture, they do not leak, and because of this, they are called form-stable implants. This makes them very safe and makes implant replacement much easier.
The patient must also choose between smooth and textured implants, anatomical and round implants, and low, moderate, and high profile breast implants. The best breast implants for you are the ones that best fit your frame and provide the look and feel you desire.
The Augmentation Mammoplasty Process
Breast enlargement starts with anesthesia. After it has been administered, one of three incisions is created:
- Periareolar – Around the areola
- Transaxillary – In the armpit
- Inframammary – In the breast fold
Through the incision, a pocket is created in the tissue. The implant is inserted and positioned correctly, and then the incision is closed with stitches.
Breast Augmentation Recovery
Recovering after breast augmentation will require you to wear a supportive surgical bra without any underwire. This will encourage tissue healing without complications.
Follow your surgeon’s care directions closely in order to ensure a proper recovery and the best possible breast augmentation results.
Breast Augmentation Cost
The price of breast enlargement surgery depends on a number of factors. The type of breast implants, the amount of time the surgical session takes, the techniques used, and other factors all impact breast augmentation cost. Financing is also available through CareCredit, Prosper Healthcare Lending, and United Medical Credit.
