Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to enhance the size of a woman’s breast. During the consultation, you will be able to ask any question(s) you may have about the procedure, results, and expectations. A breast augmentation can be paired with a breast lift for a procedure called a breast augmentation with lift. When combined, a breast lift and implants can give a patient larger perkier breasts without sag. A breast lift without implants is also very effective but does not create a volume increase.

Your Implant Choices

Patients have a wide variety of choices when it comes to breast implants. Most people just think in terms of large breast implants or small breast implants, but there are so many more attributes that define the look and feel of the results.

Choosing an implant type is key. There are three options: silicone breast implants, saline breast implants, and gummy bear implants.

Silicone implants are filled with silicone gel and are inserted pre-filled. Saline implants are filled with a sterile saline solution and are inserted empty and then filled.

Gummy bear implants are a newer option from Allergan and are quite popular. These are filled with a highly cohesive silicone gel. When they experience a rupture, they do not leak, and because of this, they are called form-stable implants. This makes them very safe and makes implant replacement much easier.

The patient must also choose between smooth and textured implants, anatomical and round implants, and low, moderate, and high-profile breast implants. The best breast implants for you are the ones that best fit your frame and provide the look and feel you desire.

The Augmentation Mammoplasty Process

Breast enlargement starts with anesthesia. After it has been administered, one of three incisions is created:

Periareolar – Around the areola
Transaxillary – In the armpit
Inframammary – In the breast fold

Through the incision, a pocket is created in the tissue. The implant is inserted and positioned correctly, and then the incision is closed with stitches.

Breast Augmentation Recovery

Recovering after breast augmentation will require you to wear a supportive surgical bra without any underwire. This will encourage tissue healing without complications.

Follow your surgeon’s care directions closely in order to ensure proper recovery and the best possible breast augmentation results.
