Breast Implant/Augmentation

Breast implants are simple cosmetic enhancements that can give a patient the breasts she desires. Implants, which are made from gel or fluid-like materials such as silicon, are surgically implanted to assist in reconstruction, re-shaping, or re-sizing of the patient’s breast area.

Breast Enhancements: How is it Done?

Thanks to current technology, breast implant surgery is not complex and can often be completed on an out-patient basis. The patient visits an operating room and is given general anesthesia; the surgeon then makes incisions on the original breasts in an area where scarring will be least problematic (often around the nipple or beneath the breast). The implants are then inserted and the incisions are closed up. Specific details of the procedure, such as placement of the implants or recovery time, vary widely by patient.

Your Life After A Breast Augmentation:

A properly-done breast implantation should not have negative effects on life after the surgery. Results, in the form of an enhanced shape or size of the breasts, are visible immediately. The incisions heal quickly, although there is sometimes minor swelling, and the patient must be careful with the surgery sites for approximately two weeks afterwards. In rare cases, infections or other problems may develop, and the patient will require follow-up care. A person who is later treated for any medical condition should advise the professional in charge that breast implants were previously done.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you reside anywhere in Plano, Denton County, or anywhere in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan areas and are planning to visit the American Institute For Plastic Surgery, study up on these FAQs to help you navigate your consultation smoothly:

Changes in sensation are common after breast procedures, particularly with breast enhancement surgeries. Temporary alterations in sensitivity may occur due to nerve involvement during surgery. However, in most cases, sensation gradually returns as the nerves heal. Permanent changes are rare but may happen.

Discussing this aspect with our experienced and board-certified surgeons beforehand can provide realistic expectations.

The required downtime varies based on the type of breast surgery. Breast enhancement procedures like implants may necessitate a shorter recovery compared to getting a breast lift. Factors influencing recovery time include individual healing rates, adherence to post-operative care, and the physical demands of your job. Generally, plan for at least a week off work, with a gradual return to regular activities following our surgeons' guidance.

Support garments, like surgical bras, are crucial after breast procedures to promote healing and provide the necessary support. Our surgeons will recommend specific garments based on the type of breast surgery. Our medical team advises wearing these garments consistently at the start of recovery and gradually reducing use.

The ability to breastfeed after breast enhancement procedures varies. While some surgeries may minimally impact breastfeeding, others, like certain types of cosmetic breast surgery, may pose challenges. Discussing your desire for breastfeeding with our seasoned surgeons is essential in making an informed decision.

Breast implants, a common aspect of breast enhancement procedures, are not permanent. They may require replacement due to factors like aging, changes in breast tissue, or complications. Routine follow-ups with any of our plastic surgeons assigned to your procedure are essential to monitor implant health and discuss potential future interventions.

Timing is crucial when considering breast procedures alongside weight loss plans. It's generally advisable to achieve a stable weight before undergoing breast enhancement surgeries. Significant weight loss after the procedure may impact the aesthetic outcomes, making coordination with our surgeons vital for the best results
